Before Victor built any of this, he was living and working in Japan with better Wi-Fi and a clearer head than most. One evening he went to Magical Mirai, one of the most celebrated Hatsune Miku events in the world, held in Tokyo with a Hero theme. Hatsune Miku is a holographic AI pop star. She has never existed as a real human being for a single second.

The arena was sold out. Businessmen in suits. Construction workers. Doctors, nurses, lawyers, engineers, students from high school to graduate school. All of them screaming, crying, holding glowsticks, singing every word. Completely losing their minds over a character they knew was not real. Not one of them caring.

They weren't there for reality. They were there for fantasy. For something beyond the ordinary. For the feeling, even for two hours, that the world was bigger, more beautiful and more possible than the one they walked into work in every morning.
